If you are looking for shin protection that isn't too bulky and doesn't shift like crazy when you make contact with it on, then the sock shin guards is a must have in addition to your harder shell shin guards. Use them when you do light sparring and drilling. You can use them to hard spar as it is a great way to condition your shins...but that might hurt your training partner so check with him/her first :P.
These are used by professional Thai fighters for training and come highly recomended for those practicing muay thai. They can also be worn for exhibition and amateur fights depending on the rule set - ask your muay thai organization.
